On the 28th of August 2020, the first out of two 7000 DWT stainless steel tankers for the owner GEFO conducted the inclination test approved by DNV-GL, and the sea trial during end of September was also successfully performed.

Successful Sea Trial for GEFO 7000 DWT Tanker

The inclination test and sea trial results proves FKAB’s intense work during design and the great cooperation with the yard China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Yangzhou) Dingheng Co Ltd.

The weight & CoG control, by optimizing the steel structure and great positioning of equipment, resulted in a weight and CoG well below the estimated figures.

This is a great result, not only since it will increase the deadweight, but also ensures a good weight and CoG for vessel number 2, that will be equipped with LNG tanks on deck for LNG propulsion.

FKAB Senior Project Manager Lars-Arne Johansson says:

“We have in great cooperation with both the yard and the owner achieved a very good result. It is an exciting time for all parties involved to see the final result and that the early stage theoretical predictions are fulfitted.

We at FKAB are extremely satisfied with the results and to see our predictions confirmed and that the optimization during design resulted in even better figures.

Needless to say, it is challenging to fit all advanced green tech equipment into limited space, and at the same time offer maximum cargo intake. On such well-equipped, relatively small tanker, it is a challenge to keep control of all design criteria’s, such as intact/damage stability, weight & CoG and to offer optimum EEDI values for low energy consumption with low CO2 footprints. This project gave us all those challenges and all our senior engineers both in FKAB China and Sweden offices certainly performed well, which gave us this fina result”
