VG-Shipping, a member of Meriaura Group, has acquired a 3,000 DWT dry cargo vessel. The 86-meter-long, 1A ice classed vessel will fly the Cyprus flag, and be under the management of a German partner.

Meriaura Group invests in modern coaster tonnage

The Meriaura chartered vessel will be named ‘Helena VG’, after a member of the owner family. In the current coaster tonnage operating in the Baltic Sea, the 3000 tonne size range is rare, as there have been very few new ships built to this size range in the last twenty years. Built in 2011, ‘Helena VG’ is one of the most recent vessels in its size class.

In addition to the acquisition, Meriaura has time chartered a 4,500 DWT vessel, M/S ‘Nordersand’ at least until next summer.

“We have responded to capacity shortage in both the 3,000 and 4,000 DWT categories. After the dry cargo market accelerated in the late autumn, we were unable to meet the growing transport demand, but now the matter has been solved”, says Beppe Rosin, Managing Director of Meriaura.

M/V ‘Helena VG’ (formerly Rochefort) will be handed over to Meriaura Group on March 1, 2021, and Nordersand during week 10.
