Algoma Spirit, a 217-metre bulk carrier, ran aground on May 16 east of the Seaway International Bridge in Cornwall, Ontario. The grounding occurred at about 4 p.m. local time. The Canadian inland vessel was laden with grain.

The incident caused neither injuries nor pollution, only the traffic in the area was suspended about 10 minutes later until May 18 at about 12:45 a.m. local time.

Algoma Spirit was refloated on Sunday evening and being escorted by two tugs, the vessel reached St.-Zotique Anchorage where Transport Canada will conduct further assessment of the bulk carrier.
