The CMA CGM Group is upgrading its current fleet calling French Guyana, North Brazil and the Caribbean. It reports taking delivery of the CMA CGM Cayenne, the first entry in a total of three Guyanamax vessels.

The container shipper announced that it took delivery of the CMA CGM Cayenne on July 21st in South Korea.

The vessel’s length is 190 meters and it has a width of 30 meters. It has a capacity of 2,100 TEU, enabling it to carry 530 Reefer containers. It was constructed by Korean shipyard Hyundai Mipo Dockyard and is going to sail under the United Kingdom flag.

It is going to be appointed to the North Europe French Guiana North Brazil (NEFGUI) line. The 42-day rotation directly joins the Caribbean, North of Europe, North Brazil and the French Guyana each week. The ship is going to call: Algeciras, Rouen, Rotterdam, Tillbury, Philipsburg, Le Havre, Degrad des Cannes, Port of Spain, Fortaleza, Belem, and Natal.

In accordance with the group’s sustainable development policy, the CMA CGM Cayenne comes featuring high-tech eco technologies which contribute for greatly reducing CO2 emissions along with the group’s general carbon footprint. The vessel is integrated with all new bulbous bow shapes that improve its hydrodynamics at a speed level of 16-18 knots, a twisted leading edge rudder with bulb, an electronically managed long stroke engine that offers one of the best levels of fuel consumption and a ballast water treatment system.

As mentioned above, it serves as the first entry in a total of three Guyanamax vessels that are set to join the current fleet of the group which consists of 465 ships in total. The series is going to be finished in August and September as the CMA CGM Saint Laurent and CMA CGM Marseille are also going to be appointed to the NEFGUI line, thus contributing for an 18% increase to the capacity of the line.

CMA CGM Group has commented that by enhancing the NEFGUI line’s capacity, calling in ports in Guyana, North Brazil, Tobago, Trinidad and Sint Marteen, it is adapting its offer to the demands of the market and is positioning itself at the leading spot of the sector.
