On September 9, the Panama-flagged bulk carrier El Condor Pas while passing the Bosphorus in Istanbul in South-North direction, ran aground despite warnings by the Istanbul Vessel Traffic Service due to an early turning maneuver at Umuryeri.
The bulk carrier was en route from Vigeroe to the port of Samsun on the Turkish Black Sea coast loaded with a cargo of iron.
The incident occurred at around 5 am local time. No damage or oil leaks have been reported so far.
Lifeboats of the local marine authorities and the Turkish tug Kurtarma 10 were dispatched to the scene immediately. The vessel has not been refloated yet and remains in Bosphorus.
The traffic in the Strait has not been affected by this accident.
