Acta Marine and CIG shipbuilding held the naming ceremony for the support vessel Acta Orion on 22 October at the port of Harlingen, The Netherlands.

Acta Marine is expanding its fleet with this purpose-built walk-to-work’ construction support vessel in order to service the offshore wind industry.

Acta Orion is 108m in length with a beam of 16m. The DP2 vessel has accommodation for 80, a large cargo deck and a cargo hold with tween deck providing more than 1,250m2 of deck space. The vessel will be the largest unit in the Acta Marine fleet.

Acta Marine contracted CIG Shipbuilding for the design and construction of the vessel, which was designed to have a high level of station and seakeeping in order to increase comfort onboard and workability.

The vessel will be fitted with an active motion-compensated personnel transfer gangway, permitting the safe transfer of work crews and cargo packages.

Immediately following delivery in mid-November, Acta Orion's first project will be on the Gemini offshore wind-farm 85km north of the Dutch coast, which is currently under construction by Van Oord Offshore Wind Projects. Its role will be to support work crews and enable them to access platforms and foundations in order to prepare for submarine cable pull-in and terminations.

Acta Orion will also act as an in-field accommodation and support base for transfer vessels on the project. In addition the vessel can also be utilized to support the erection and maintenance of the wind turbines.
