J. Lauritzen has been working closely with high tech engineers CLIIN to develop a robot that can clean the hold of a dry bulk ship. The robots were developed in close collaboration, using a trial and error approach. The benefits of the robots include:
- increased safety - as crew do not have to climb the hold
- higher efficiency - the robots can clean the hold both better and faster
- the use of significantly fewer chemicals (around 90% fewer) to clean - which is much better for the environment
