Star Gaia is a newbuild conventional bulk vessel, built at Mitsui Chiba Shipyard in Japan. She was named and delivered to us on the 27th of November, with Grieg Star Head of Finance, Nicolai Hafeld Grieg, present.

“We are happy to strengthen our conventional bulk position with this LTTC vessel. Our customers require safe, reliable and efficient services and I am confident that new buildings like Star Gaia contribute to that mission.” says CEO Matt Duke.

We prefer to name our bulk vessels after gods and goddesses from Greek mythology. Gaia was the Mother Earth, the mother of the Titans and grandmother of Zeus. The idea of calling her Star Gaia came from several of our employees. One of them said:

“Mother Earth deserves the honour of a ship named after her, to show appreciation of all wonders she has bestowed upon us.”
