Fred. Olsen Windcarrier has ordered a 1600t leg-encircling crane from Huisman Equipment for the “Brave Tern” – one of its Gusto 9000 type jack-up wind turbine installation vessels.

Fred. Olsen Windcarrier Upgrading its WTI Vessel with a 1600-ton Crane

This major upgrade will enable the “Brave Tern” to handle all known next-generation offshore wind turbines, including foundations. The illustration shows the height of the new crane, which upon delivery in 2022 will be the highest in the market.

ICE was responsible for completing Class drawings and doing the complete detail design for Fred. Olsen Windcarrier’s two Gusto 9000 jack-up vessels, acting as the de facto design office for the builder, Lamprell Energy. ICE has later been entrusted by Fred. Olsen Windcarrier for various modifications of the vessels for various upgrades and adaptations to meet specific customer-related requirements.

The newly announced upgrade is the biggest so far and shows the versatility of these vessels and how they can be adapted to meet market changes.
