Historical AIS Data Services

Historical AIS data is a valuable data source used for vessel traffic analyzes, port calling information, risk assessment and accident investigation. The data is also used for analysing the vessels movements on a global scale, potential trends in the shipping market or vessel behaviour patterns for prosecution of illegal activites.

vessel movements video playback

Video playback of vessel movements

  • Perfect to investigate:
  • a ship accident or collision
  • illegal shipping activities at sea
  • vessel movements behaviour patterns
ais data on past positions

AIS data on past ship positions since 2009

  • Perfect to track:
  • position of one or more vessels
  • all vessels in particular port/s
  • all ships in a predefined geographical area
Vessel port calls and event tracking

Port Calls for ship/port and Event tracking

  • Perfect to explore:
  • ports called by specific vessel
  • all vessels called particular port or area
  • movements status, draught, destination
traffic density analysis

Traffic density analysis in critical area or port

  • Perfect to analyze:
  • shipping traffic in specific area or port
  • potential trends in the shipping market
  • the efficiency of port activities

Video Simulation

Video Simulation service uses raw AIS data to playback the vessel positions and create a video simulation of the vessel movements on a digital map.

This service is perfect to:
  • investigate a ship accident or collision
  • investigate vessel behaviour patterns for potential prosecution of illegal actions, such as bunkering or illegal ballast water exchange
Data output:
  • Raw timestamped NMEA data
  • Decoded data (xls or csv format)
  • Video simulation (AVI file)

Data is delivered in CSV or XLS format.
Additional parameters may be provided by request.

Vessel Movements Report

The vessel movements report provides data on the position of thousands of ships around the world. This service is based on historical AIS data collected by terrestrial AIS stations since 2009.

The AIS position reports are performed for:
  • one or more vessels for a given period of time (on a predefined list of MMSI or IMO numbers)
  • all vessel movements in particular port or area (defined by geographical coordinates)

In most cases, typical time resolution of a vessel movements report is 5-minutes or 1-hour (time resolution is the time between two sequential position records of each vessel) depending on the customer requirements. For more detailed analysis, when time resolution should be as high as possible, raw NMEA data is used to perform the movements report.

Data included in a standard vessel movements report:
  • DATE / TIME timestamp of the position report (in UTC)
  • MMSI – vessel's MMSI number
  • IMO – vessel's IMO number
  • NAME – vessel's name
  • LATITUDE - geographical latitude (in degrees)
  • LONGITUDE - geographical longitude (in degrees)
  • COURSE – course over ground (in degrees)
  • SPEED - speed over ground (in knots)
  • HEADING – heading of the vessel's hull (in degrees)
  • NAVSTAT – navigational status (according to AIS specification)
  • CALLSIGN – vessel's call sign
  • DIMENSIONS – length and beam of the vessel
  • A - dimensions to bow (in meters)
  • B - dimensions to stern (in meters)
  • C - dimensions to port (in meters)
  • D - dimensions to starboard (in meters)
  • DRAUGHT – draught of the vessel at time of the position record
  • DESTINATION – next destination of the vessel according to AIS
  • ETA – estimated time of arrival
  • AIS TYPE – vessel's type according to AIS specification
Data is delivered in CSV or XLS format.
Additional parameters may be provided by request.

Port Calls

Port Calls reporting service is based on processing of AIS position data. The Port Call is registered when we detect a vessel in a predefined bounding box around most major ports.

The Port Calls service is perfect to:
  • explore the ports called by specific vessel or a list of vessels
  • research all vessels that called particular port or geographical area
Data included in the Port Calls report:
  • DATE / TIME time stamp of each record (in UTC)
  • MMSI – vessel's MMSI number
  • LATITUDE - geographical latitude (in degrees)
  • LONGITUDE - geographical longitude (in degrees)
  • IMO – vessel's IMO number
  • NAME – vessel's name
  • EVENT - ENTER_ZONE or EXIT_ZONE
  • PORT NAME / LOCODE - port's name and locode

Data is delivered in CSV or XLS format.
Additional parameters may be provided by request.

Event Tracking

Events Report is a service through which you can get informed when vessels changed their:
  • MOVEMENT STATUS - vessels were under way (speed higher than 0.5 knots) or not moving (speed equal to or lower than 0.5 knots)
  • IN RANGE / OUT OF RANGE STATUS
  • DESTINATION
  • IMO NUMBER
  • DRAUGHT
  • NAME
This service is perfect to:
  • analyze when specific vessel or a list of vessels were moving
  • explore when vessels got loaded or discharged considering the draught changes
  • find out when vessels changed their destination or IMO number
  • see when vessel gone out of range (turned its AIS off, experienced problem with the AIS or just left our coverage zone)

Data is delivered in CSV or XLS format.
Additional parameters may be provided by request.

TRAFFIC DENSITY ANALYSIS

Тhis service provides global picture on the traffic density in critical areas or ports based on historical AIS data. The density analysis is performed for particular area and selection criteria by ship type, size or year of built may be applied.

This service is ideal if you are trying to:
  • analyze the shipping traffic in specific area or port
  • research potential trends in the shipping market
  • increase the efficiency of port activities
Data output:
  • Traffic density images
  • Georeferenced KML/KMZ file
  • Entire AIS data set used to perform the analysis
