Seafood exporters are not happy with the raising in reefer container freight rates by shipping lines. The lines have decided to impose an across-the-board hike of $1500 a container regardless of size and destination.
The Association of the Seafood Exporters of India explained that this increase could affect badly exports and exporters. This problem had been discussed at the Board of Trade Meeting convened by the Commerce Ministry in New Delhi on March 22.
Some of the exporters claim that the shipping lines had given a notice for a $1,500 increase, but the majority are charging in the rates between $700 and $1000 depending on volumes.
The seafood industry is going through hard times and the export to East and West Asia (from India) will not be able to compete.
