APM Terminals Gothenburg has welcomed the maiden call of a new service that will depart weekly to the US and South America. Removing the need for transshipment, the Ecuador-NWC & Scan Baltic-USA from the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) is the Nordic region’s first direct connection to South America. It offers a 27-day steam time to its first port of call in South America, Freeport in the Bahamas.
The new service has been enthusiastically received and provides the Swedish market with the reliability and cost-effectiveness that comes with a direct connection. With unpredictable world events, direct shipment helps secure supply chains and removes any potential risk from transshipment.
Despite economic turbulence, forest exports remain strong and Swedish forest products are highly sought after on the global market, not least in South America. This new service can help increase their competitiveness on the global stage by offering safe and sustainable logistics solutions.
