FESCO Transportation Group has announced that the diesel-electric vessel Vasiliy Golovnin has successfully completed its expedition to Antarctica, having delivered essential cargo to two Indian and one Belgian research stations.
This marks the second voyage under a five-year contract for the supply of Antarctic stations, which was signed with the National Center for Polar and Oceanic Research of the Ministry of Earth Sciences of India (NCPOR). The previous contract was for a three-year period.
The Vasiliy Golovnin embarked on the voyage on January 20, 2023, and returned to the port of Cape Town in South Africa on April 4.
During the expedition, the ship transported fuel, food, and polar explorers to replace their colleagues at Indian stations Bharati and Maitri, and also made a stop at the Belgian station Princess Elisabeth. Additionally, the Vasiliy Golovnin collected over 100 tonnes of domestic and technical waste from the research stations.
FESCO Transportation Group has significant experience working in Antarctica and has previously participated in various state projects related to the supply of research stations for the United States, Australia, Great Britain, Chile, and Argentina.
