Med Marine announced yesterday that two new design contracts have been signed with Robert Allan Ltd. The contracts are for RAscal 1800 series tugs, incorporating both Z-drive and twin screw propulsion types.
The compact RAscal 1800 tugs will feature a minimum of 30 tonnes bollard pull, and will be able to perform towing, pushing, mooring, and fire-fighting duties.
The design has following dimensions:
- LENGTH O.A. 18,00 m
- BEAM O.A. 9,60 m
- DEPTH (MOULDED) 3,30 m
- DESIGN DRAFT 3,3 m
- FULL LOAD DRAFT 3,5 m
Both designs will incorporate two Caterpillar C32 engines developing a total output of 1.940kW (app. 2601 bhp) at 1800 rpm, and will have a free sailing speed of 10.5 knots.
The ASD vessels will be equipped with a pair of Schottel SRP 260 fixed pitch z-drives. The twin screw version will be outfitted with two propellers of 1.780mm diameter driven through two ZF 5355 gearboxes with 5,500:1 reduction ratio.
The design has climate-controlled accommodation space for 4 persons in two double crew cabins.
