- Boluda Corporación Marítima’s South American subsidiary Naviera del Mercosur manages dry and reefer cargo transport
- The new containership joins the fleet coinciding with the tenth anniversary of the acquisition of the South American company in 2008
Boluda Corporación Marítima’s shipping company Boluda Lines has added a new containership to its South American Paraná-Paraguay Waterway line managed by its subsidiary Naviera del Mercosur. This investment will strengthen containerized dry and reefer goods transportation services along one of the most important river routes in the world, fundamental to freight traffic in the South American cone.
Boluda Corporación Marítima has converted the barge LAGO YPOA into a new containership, the VICKY B, identical in dimensions and design to ASUNCION B, which already operates at full capacity on this waterway. Their special draft characteristics, dimensions and manoeuvrability make them the safest and most versatile of all vessels navigating the waterway. Like its sister ship ASUNCION B, VICKY B is 104 m long and 20.40 m beam, with a 300 TEU transport capacity.
The waterway has a total length of 3,442 kilometres. It starts in Río de la Plata, between Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Montevideo and Puerto Palmira (Uruguay), along the Paraná River (in Argentina). It continues from Corrientes along the Paraguay River and crosses Argentina, Paraguay, Bolivia and Brazil, ending in the Brazilian town of Puerto Cáceres. Naviera del Mercosur transports goods in the central and southern sections of the route, from the capital of Paraguay Asunción, crossing Argentine territory through Corrientes, Santa Fe and Rosario, passing through Zárate and Buenos Aires and ending at Nueva Palmira and Montevideo, in Uruguay, from where the return journey starts.
Boluda Corporación Marítima acquired Naviera del Mercosur in 2008, as part of its expansion and service diversification plan. The South American company was created in 1994 in response to the significant increase in freight cargo from the Atlantic Ocean, originating in or destined for Paraguay, along the Paraná and Uruguay river routes.
Ten years’ commitment to the waterway
To mark the tenth anniversary since Naviera del Mercosur was acquired, Boluda Lines has made an investment this year to meet increased demand, improving the already consolidated transport service. With the addition of the VICKY B the most significant improvement lies in an increase from the current fortnightly itinerary to a weekly service.
Boluda Corporación Marítima is currently one of the leading global maritime service companies in Latin America, with commercial activity also in Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, Germany, West Africa, Cape Verde and the Indian Ocean, and offices in five continents. With more than 180 years’ experience in the maritime sector since it was founded in Valencia in 1837, since the 80’s the corporation’s main focus is on internationalization and diversification of maritime services, on both sides of the Atlantic.
Through Naviera del Mercosur, the maritime company continues to promote economic growth in these southern cone countries with the aim of offering customers a highly professional, competitive, safe and quality transport service for all types of containerized cargo along the waterway.
