Roan is part of Europe’s largest onshore wind power project “Fosen” in central Norway, comprising six wind farms with a combined capacity of 1000 MW. Construction commenced in 2016 and commissioning is expected completed in 2020. Norwegian Statkraft is responsible for project execution on behalf of Fosen Vind.
First part of the Fosen project
The Roan wind farm is the first part of the Fosen project and consist of 71 wind turbines. Blue Water has worked on the project since November 2016 when we handed in our first bid. Since then the rates have been adjusted several times and we were in April 2017 awarded first part of the project; port handling in Monstad, Norway. Subsequently, we have also been awarded trucking to site and sea freight from Esbjerg to Monstad.
Services in Esbjerg and Monstad
“We expect 16-17 shipments out of Esbjerg. Blue Water Port Service will take care of receipt of the components in Esbjerg and delivery to the vessels and Blue Water Stevedoring will perform loading. For the handling operation of the components in Monstad, we have delivered equipment including tug master and special trailers to transport the components. In addition, we have a transport coordinator on site in Monstad during the entire period which started in week 12 and is expected to finish in late July/early August”, says Christian Heyk Petersen from Blue Water’s Wind Logistics department in Esbjerg, who is the Coordinator on the project.
Challenges
“The biggest challenge is the storage in the port of Monstad. Efficient coordination with vessels, haulier, the site and the client are necessary to avoid congestion. We have also been challenged by the weather as we had more snow than expected this winter. We are so far north that the weather also causes problems in connection with trucking to the site, and the job has to be completed before next winter”, concludes Christian Heyk.
