With positive signs of renewed vigor in the global shipbuilding industry, Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction – Philippines (HHIC-Phil Inc.) unveiled its 3rd Subic-made 20,600 TEU class container vessel in a delivery signing ceremony held on October 9, 2018 in its sprawling 300-hectare shipyard.
Named CMA CGM Louis Bleriot after Louis Charles Joseph Blériot, a French aviator, inventor and engineer, the vessel was launched April of this year and is considered among one of the biggest commercial ships in the world at present.
This is the third and last vessel of its kind that French shipping powerhouse CMA CGM purchased from HHIC-Phil Inc. in April 2015. The first was delivered early this year and the second vessel of the 20, 600 TEU series was delivered last May 2018.
Highlighting HHIC Phil’s commitment in bringing unparalleled innovation in the international shipping market, this colossal container vessel measures 385 meters in length overall, 59 meters in width and 25.88 meters in depth. It could transport up to 20,600 units of 40 feet shipping container, which, when lined up, would reach 12.5 kilometers long. Its deck is equivalent to four football fields.
Under the technical supervision of classification society Bureau Veritas, HHIC-Phil Inc. successfully carried out the construction of the vessel, with the high quality of craftsmanship of Filipino workforce.
