EVTL has created a new benchmark by achieving 100,000 Tonnes Per Day (TPD) loading rate, surpassing its previous highest record of 88,000 TPD.
This milestone was achieved on 25th Nov. 2018, when Essar Shipping’s MV Ishwari was loaded with 104,120 tonnes of pellets in under 26 hours.
Built at a cost of 830 crores, EVTL is India’s largest iron ore handling complex. It boasts of state-of-the-art, fully mechanized cargo handling equipment and fastest vessel turnaround time for iron ore among Indian ports.
The iron ore handling complex can berth Super Capesize vessels up to 200,000 DWT, with a depth of 20 metres, on the outer harbour of Vizag Port. Focus on global best practices in mechanisation and sustainable environment protection also significantly reduces dust emission and spillage, thus improving the carbon footprint and working conditions of the port.
EVTL took over the project in 2015 on a Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Transfer (DBFOT) basis for a period of 30 years. The iron ore handling complex is an all-weather, deep draft facility that is equipped to serve the rapidly growing markets of South-East Asia, including China, Japan, and Korea. It has dedicated rail connectivity for cargo evacuation from the states of Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Jharkhand.
