The operations team at the Port of Barrow has handled the first wood pulp delivery for its newest customer, world-leading packaging materials manufacturer, BillerudKorsnäs.
Equipped with the right skills and experience to provide excellent customer service, the local team handled around 3,000 tonnes of wood pulp supplied by Energía y Celulosa (Ence), the leading European producer of eucalyptus pulp. The delivery arrived from Ribadeo, Spain aboard the general cargo vessel EEMS Dart.
Swedish pulp products manufacturer BillerudKorsnäs creates packaging materials and solutions that challenge conventional packaging for a sustainable future. Their projects aim to minimise the environmental impacts of packaging and reduce land and marine pollution.
In addition, every year the Port of Barrow handles around 60,000 tonnes of wood pulp for Kimberly Clark’s Barrow Mill, which is the largest tissue Mill in Europe and supports over 400 jobs.
Carl Bevan, ABP Divisional Port Manager – North West, said: “As one of Barrow’s largest employment sites, we are pleased to welcome our new customer, BillerudKorsnäs.
“This new relationship highlights the strategic importance of Barrow’s location and is an endorsement of our expertise in this sector. We look forward to building a long-lasting partnership, as we continue to support jobs and contribute to the growth of the Cumbrian economy.”
