Ground-breaking delivery of diverse and integrated KONGSBERG systems selected for new, state-of-the-art semi-submersible drilling rig

Kongsberg Maritime has won its first milestone orders for a major project combining KONGSBERG control and electrical systems with power, propulsion and mooring solutions. The entire deal is valued at approximately MNOK 350 total.

Keppel Offshore & Marine selects KONGSBERG for ground-breaking delivery of diverse and integrated systems for new, state-of-the-art semi-submersible drilling rig

KONGSBERG systems will be used to optimise operations on the second newbuild Awilco Drilling Owned Moss CS60Eco semi-submersible drilling rig being built by Singapore’s Keppel Offshore & Marine. Delivery of a diverse technology and equipment package, previously not available from a single partner serving the shipbuilding sector will take place during Q2/Q3 2020 with the rig due for completion in March 2022.

“Our work with Keppel Offshore & Marine demonstrates our position as a world-class organisation with the unique ability to provide operational technology and major ship’s equipment as a single supplier,” said Egil Haugsdal, President, Kongsberg Maritime. “As one Kongsberg Maritime, our goal is to provide sustainable, safe and cost-effective integrated solutions that optimise operations and deliver value across the board.”

The improved drilling efficiency and reliability of this second CS60 ECO MW for Awilco Drilling will result in lower OPEX with per day cost savings compared to existing semi-submersible rigs. This is aided by a complete KONGSBERG package including Diesel Engines, High Torque Thrusters, Mooring System, Hybrid power system with advanced battery technology, Thruster Drives, Drilling Drives and Energy Management systems, contributing significantly to reducing fuel oil consumption and minimising CO₂ and NOx emissions, resulting in further savings on related duties.

The operational technology scope includes further cost-reducing elements including condition monitoring of rotating machinery and an advanced Information Management System. As part of this, the rig will also be equipped with KONGSBERG’s ECO Advisor system with built in guidance to help the operators make optimal decisions for set up of the complete power plant.
