On the 20th of September, Klaveness Combination Carriers ASA (KCC) took delivery of the MV Barramundi from New Yangzi Shipyard in China. The MV Barramundi is the third of eight contracted CLEANBU vessels that will be delivered from New Yangzi Shipyard in the period 2019 to 2021.
This next generation of combination carriers, the CLEANBUs are unique both in terms of vessel design, their unprecedented environmental performance, operational and technical efficiency. These vessels have up to 40% lower CO2 emissions per ton mile transported cargo compared to standard vessels and go a long way in meeting IMO’s 2050 targets of a 50% reduction in CO2 emissions from shipping.
With the delivery of the MV Barramundi, Klaveness Combination Carriers will operate a fleet of 12 combination carriers. KCC has fixed-price options to contract an additional four CLEANBUs for delivery in 2021 and 2022.
The MV Barramundi is ready for her first employment, transporting a cargo of caustic soda solution from the Far East to Australia, followed by transportation of alumina from Australia to the Middle East Gulf.
