Estonian energy company Elenger became the fifth user of the Klaipėda LNG Terminal, which had a record volume of operations this year. It is planned that the first LNG cargo ordered by Elenger will reach Klaipėda in the second half of November.
This is the third new LNG terminal user this year. At the beginning of June, the agreement on provision of Klaipėda LNG terminal services was signed with the Lithuanian energy resources trading company Imlitex UAB, in August - with the Estonian energy company Eesti Energia. Until then, Ignitis UAB (until September 9, 2019 - Lietuvos Energijos Tiekimas UAB) and Achema AB were sole users of the LNG terminal in Klaipėda.
“It is symbolic that Klaipėda LNG Terminal, which just celebrated its fifth anniversary of operation, also attracted a fifth user. The partnership with Elenger has proven once again that our country's LNG terminal benefits not only Lithuania, but also the region as a whole - customers continue to benefit from low LNG prices and our infrastructure allows them to provide gas to customers outside Lithuania at a much more competitive price. We are sure that new terminal users are attracted not only by favorable gas prices on international markets, but also by reliable and smooth operation of Klaipėda LNG terminal, as well as flexible technological and planning decisions made for our customers,” said Arūnas Molis, Head of Klaipėda LNG Service.
According to Elenger board member Margus Kaasik, the decision to purchase natural gas via Klaipėda LNG terminal is a long-planned strategic step for the company. “This grants us access to global market and means more reasonable prices to our clients as there are more sources of supply available,” said Kaasik.
Klaipėda LNG terminal continues to maintain record volumes and high operational efficiency. The favorable situation on the international gas markets has led to a 40 percent increase of regasification and loading volumes. During the three quarters of the year, 31 gas carrier was accepted in Klaipėda - for the same period a year ago, 8 gas carriers were accepted, and in recent months the LNG terminal has been regasing much more than the total Lithuanian gas demand.
