The Port of Southampton will welcome MSC Cruises’ newest vessel MSC Grandiosa (see also CruiseMapper) for her UK launch on 12 November.
Among the largest cruise ships in the world, MSC Grandiosa is the first of the new ‘Meraviglia Plus’ class of ships accommodating 6,334 passengers. She will make her maiden call to Southampton following her naming ceremony in Hamburg on 9 November.
MSC Grandiosa is one of MSC Cruises most environmentally advanced ships to date and features state-of-the-art environmental technologies that help reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by 80%.
Southampton is the first call on MSC Grandiosa’s maiden cruise and following her visit to Southampton, she will spend her inaugural season in the Mediterranean with week-long itineraries.
“We’re proud to welcome the latest, newest and largest MSC cruise ship to the port as part of her maiden cruise. The MSC ships always have a magnificent presence in the port and we’re delighted to play a significant part of her launch to the UK market,” - Alastair Welch Regional Director for Southampton said.
Cruise is a significant industry for Southampton and generates £2 million for the economy each time a ship calls in the city.
