On Thursday 23rd of April, Port of Zeebrugge welcomed the Hollandia Seaways of DFDS, the longest shortsea-roroship. The ship will be operating on the connection between Zeebrugge and Göteborg. With its length of 237.4 meters, and a cargo capacity of 6,700 line meters, the ship can carry up to 450 trailers.
The ship arrived at the PSA-terminal in Zeebrugge, more specifically at the Wielingendok. This dock has recently been modified with regard to the length of the ship.
The large loading capacity of the ship ensures that the emissions per transported trailer decrease significantly. Moreover, its three independent stern ramps shorten the time in the port due to an increase in efficiency. Furthermore, it is equipped with a system that scrubs the exhaust gases in order to reduce sulphur oxide emissions. The ship also has the ability to be connected to shore power.
The Hollandia Seaways is the third ship in a series of six that are being built by Jinling Shipyards in China for the Danish shipping company DFDS. The first two ships were delivered in 2019. These are now operational on the routes between Turkey and the EU. The Hollandia Seaways is operational on the North Sea.
