American Roll-on Roll-off Carrier (ARC) and the JAXPORT provided operational support and oversight for the load of two U.S. Marine Corps MV-22 Ospreys on the M/V ARC Independence.
The operation took place at the Blount Island Terminal at the Port of Jacksonville, Florida for delivery to Rota, Spain.
ARC Senior Vice President & Head of Commercial Chris Heibel was on hand to welcome Frederick Wong, Chief Operating Officer of JAXPORT onboard.
Wong stated, “This was a great opportunity to showcase the teamwork and strategic importance of JAXPORT and ARC in support of USTRANSCOM’s critical mission requirements. We are thrilled that ARC is relocating its headquarters to Northeast Florida and look forward to building on this important partnership to benefit our customers and community.”
The M/V ARC Independence is a Large Car & Truck Carrier (LCTC) and is one of ARC’s most capable vessels at 747 feet in length (228 meters). With a 240 metric ton (MT) stern ramp, a main deck height of 21.3 feet (6.5 meters), and 198,000 square feet of militarily useful capacity, it is one of a handful of commercial U.S.-flag ships capable of and certified by the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) to carry up to nine V-22 Ospreys.
