Last week, Ramform Titan entered Galveston marking the first-ever visit of a Titan-class vessel to a US port. The PGS flagship vessel is mobilizing for a 4D survey in the Gulf of Mexico.
The entry to the Galveston channel was closed for outgoing traffic while the pilots guided the vessel through the channel on her way to her berth. The vessel then completed the comprehensive formalities of entry to a US port, including customs clearance and immigration for all crew.
The US Coast Guard (USCG) boarded the vessel on Thursday morning with a team of five inspectors, who spent over six hours examining the vessel and interviewing the Captain, Chief Engineer, and officers on duty. They inspected all safety equipment and verified that our procedures are not only sufficient and complete but also that we are following them. This was followed by lifeboat and fire-drills.
The Captain, the Chief Engineer and the crew of the Ramform Titan passed the USCG scrutiny with excellence. The inspectors were not able to find a single deficiency.
Under strict Covid-19 precautions, a group of customers was invited to Galveston to visit the vessel, guided by PGS representatives from our Houston office. Here are some of their reactions following the tour of outside areas:
“The Titan-class vessels have enabled the discovery and development of this company’s assets across the globe, and it was a great privilege to be able to see one up close in Galveston.”
“We really appreciated the opportunity and PGS arrangements to make this vessel visit happen. The awesome perspective to be gained only this way makes all of us more appreciative of the technology, cost, scale, and operational complexity associated with marine geophysical data.”
