The Egyptian Abu Qir’s Container Terminal is a strategic and important connection in the maritime trade routes between Africa, Asia, the Indian Ocean, and Europe.

In January 2024, Boluda Towage commenced towage operations in the Egyptian Abu Qir’s Container Terminal with three powerful tugs.

Boluda starts operations in Egypt

Tuesday 9 January 2024 was marked by the arrival of the first container vessel. The tugs VB AMON and VB HORUS performed their first assistance in Egypt by welcoming the container vessel ZHONG GU JI LIN and assisting the vessel to its berthing place at the Abu Qir Container terminal. A few days later, on 12 January, the tugs welcomed and assisted the 2nd container vessel, MAO GANG SHANG HAI into the Port.

Vicente Boluda Fos, President of Boluda Corporación Marítima, stated that: “Abu Qir is a port in full motion, and the port developments perfectly fit with the ambitions of the Boluda Towage Division. The presence in Egypt and the Middle East is a further step towards strengthening and expanding our global activities. We are proud to be part of the developments and that we have been able to respond well to the demands of the port authority and container terminal.”

“Furthermore, we would like to thank the close cooperation with the Egyptian Navy and Hutchison Ports for all their support during the launch of our operations.“

The towage operations in Egypt will be supported by a dedicated team onshore, based in an office in Abu Qir. At the initial start of towage services in the port of Abu Qir, Boluda Towage operates a fleet of three powerful tugs (VB AMON, VB HORUS, and VB AHMOSE) with 75 tonnes bollard pull and firefighting capabilities. Boluda Towage purchased two Tractor tugs from Sanmar Shipyards, VB AMON, and VB HORUS, and one ASD tug, VB AHMOSE, from Med Marine Shipyards.
