On August 21, the 62,000-DWT multi-purpose pulp carriers, “COSCO SHIPPING JI XIANG” and "COSCO SHIPPING RU YI”, were named at the Shandong Huanghai Shipyard.
Leung Chun-ying, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference; Lin Shijian, CEO of Haihan Capital; Lin Ji, Executive Vice President of COSCO SHIPPING; Zhao Jianping, Chairman of Huanghai Shipyard; Guo Jinkui, Chairman of Seacon Shipping Group were present at the naming ceremony where they addressed the audience. The ships were named by their godmothers, Ms. Leung Tong Ching-yee and Ms. Lam Fong Shu-ming, who respectively carried out the honors.
The “COSCO SHIPPING JI XIANG” and “COSCO SHIPPING RU YI” represent the 21st and 22nd vessels in COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carrier’s 62,000-DWT series of multi-purpose pulp carriers. These ships measure 201.8 meters in length, 32.26 meters in width, and 19.3 meters in depth, with a range of 22,000 nautical miles.
Their cargo holds have a capacity of approximately 72,000 cubic meters. Boasting superior watertight integrity, these carriers are designed for pulp transportation and are fitted with a dehumidification system in the cargo holds to meet the dehumidification needs for the entire ship’s pulp, thus ensuring the quality of the transported product.
The decks of these two new vessels are equipped with two sets of 100-ton single cranes and one set of 100-ton ×2 combination cranes, capable of a maximum lifting weight of 195 tons, enhancing their loading and unloading capabilities and efficiency over the same series of ships. The main and auxiliary engines are fitted with SCR systems, complying with NOx TIER III emission standards, and the ships have been awarded additional certifications for intelligent and green ecological vessels, showcasing their outstanding applicability, economy, and reliability.
Additionally, it was reported that on August 22, COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carrier’s ninth 77,000-DWT series multi-purpose pulp carrier, “GREEN MUNGUBA,” was named and delivered in Dalian. This series is currently recognized as the world’s largest specialized pulp carrier.
Guests from Bank of Communications Financial Leasing, Bank of Communications Dalian Branch, COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry, Dalian Branch of China Classification Society, Huayang Maritime Center, Shanghai Merchant Ship Design & Research Institute, and COSCO SHIPPING Ship Trading, among other relevant entities, attended the naming ceremony. The ship was named by its godmother, Ms. Liu Suwen.
The “GREEN MUNGUBA,” spanning 225.0 meters in length, 32.26 meters in width, and 21.0 meters in depth, is designed to reach a speed of 15 knots and boasts a cruising range of 25,000 nautical miles. This vessel is an energy-efficient and environmentally friendly green ship. Its cargo holds are all of the container type and fitted with a rotary dehumidifier to fully ensure the quality and safety of pulp during transportation. Besides catering to the loading needs of pulp customers, the ship is also equipped to handle high-speed rail trains, wind power equipment, new energy vehicles, large machinery and equipment, as well as ultra-long and overweight steel pipe pile structures. To safeguard the transportation of new energy vehicles, the ship series has implemented a “one-to-one” temperature monitoring and early warning system.
Reportedly, the “GREEN MUNGUBA” will embark on its maiden voyage on the West South American route, transporting containers and construction machinery from domestic ports to countries including Peru and Chile.
