HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, a subsidiary of HD Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, announced on the 18th that it has signed a construction contract for two ultra-large liquefied petroleum gas carriers (VLGC) with an Asian-based shipping company. The amount of orders is about 340 billion won. Two VLGCs will be built by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and delivered by December 2027.
HD Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering has won a total of 177 ships so far, achieving $19.77 billion, or 146.4 percent of its annual order target of $13.5 billion. With this order, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries also achieved its annual order target, and all HD Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering affiliates exceeded 100 percent of the order target.
Meanwhile, Hanwha Ocean also announced on the same day that it has signed orders for two super-large VLGCs with ship owners in Asia. The order amount is about 333 billion won, and the contract termination date is November 2027. The ship will be built at Hanwha Ocean's Geoje plant and delivered to the shipowner by the end of 2027.
Hanwha Ocean won a total of 42 orders this year, including 19 liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers and floating LNG storage and recycling facilities (LNG-FSRU), 7 ultra-large crude oil carriers, 6 container ships, 5 liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and ammonia carriers, 1 offshore plant and 4 special ships, achieving orders worth $8.15 billion.
