Part of the debris of the car carrier Baltic Ace arrived on June 7 in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Back in 2012, on December 5 during a snowstorm and in a very rough sea, the 8372 dwt container ship Corvus J collided with Baltic Ace near the coast of Netherlands in the North Sea.

The car carrier sank very quickly with 11 crew members, who were not able to embark the life rafts. Only 13 seamen survived after the accident.
The vessel’s cargo of 1400 Mitsubishi vehicles went down together with the ship in a sea depth of 35 meters.
In February 2014, Boskalis and Mammoet Salvages signed a contract with the Dutch authorities on the removal of the Baltic Ace from the sea.
Because of the heavy traffic in the port of Rotterdam, the wreck was believed to be a threat to the shipping in the area.
During the accident the vessel was loaded with nearly 540,000 litres of fuel, which made the wreck even more hazardous, posing a threat to the environment.
The Baltic Ace remains will be broken up into six different sections by the salvage teams and then lifted up to the surface.
The salvage works are expected to be finished by the end of the summer.
