VIDEO: Collision between LPG tanker and boxship off Surabaya, tanker severely damaged

In the early morning of June 29th, LPG tanker Navigator Aries collided with boxship Leo Perdana in waters of Karang Jamuang Island. The incident occurred some 20 nautical miles north of Surabaya, East Java.

Navigator Aries encountered 5-meter long breach on its left side, and a fire, which fortunately, was quickly extinguished.

The tanker was en route from Dermaga Gospier to Pelabuhan Kalbut, while the boxship was en route to Surabaya.

Four tugs were dispatched to the incident location.

Navigator Aries was anchored in position 06 59S 112 42E, about 10 nautical miles north of Gresik. Leo Perdana reached Surabaya under own power and was docked.

The Indonesian flagged 23,333-dwt LPG tanker Navigator Aries, IMO 9403762 is built in 2008. The ship is managed by NAVIGATOR GAS LLC.

The Panama registered 33,423-dwt container ship Leo Perdana has a capacity of 2,553 TEUs. The ship is built in 2007 and managed by TOKEI KAIUN KK, Japan.
