Yesterday, the containership was entering the mouth of the Cape Fear River, en route from Port Newark to the Port Wilmington, when it lost power about 5 am local time. The crew of the 4,545-TEU vessel managed to drop anchor which prevented grounding.

The incident caused no damage, there were no reports of injuries.

Two tugboats were dispatched to the scene to assist the Hanjin San Diego. Having been moved farther offshore, the containership regained power and headed towards Port of Wilmington.
