The 83-meter Kelt has run aground in Saimaa lake.
The incident occurred on August 9 at night off Lappeenranta. The Kelt was en route from Vyborg, Russia, to Likoseenlahti, Finland, when a failure of the steering gear caused it to run over the rocky shallows.
Preliminary assessment by the local authorities found the vessel has sustained a breach in one of its ballast tanks.
The vessel will be taken under tow once the underwater inspection is over. There are no reports of injuries or pollution released.

In February, failure of the engine caused Kelt to drift towards a wind farm in the North sea. The vessel was then safely towed to Delfzijl.
Kelt (IMO number 9489534 and MMSI 246594000) was built in 2009. Operator of the 3,750-DWT cargo ship is Wagenborg Shipping, the Netherlands.
