The Wihan Sejahtera capsized and sank in the Lamong Bay just after having left the port of Surabaya on Nov 16, 2015, at 09.30 a.m. local time.

Witnesses had felt a jolt before vessel started to list to starboard, thought to be resulting from a collision. Help was soon at hand, as the ship was only 500 meters from the shore.

Several fishing boats, patrol boats and tugs attended. About 150 people were rescued. 25 were taken to hospital with fractures or bruises.

The SAR operation was complicated by haze. The vessel was en route from Tanjung Perak Surabaya to Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara.
