General cargo vessel MADARES collided with the old Chalkis bridge, Euboea island, Greece, at around 00:45 LT on May 13.

The accident occurred while the vessel was proceeding in northern direction, en route from Aliveri to Volos, Greece.

Bridge and vessel suffered damages. MADARES was ordered to anchor north of the bridge. The local marine authorities launched an investigation into the incident. Extent of damages unknown.

MADARES is a 3147-dwt general cargo vessel, built in 1978, sailing under Greek flag. The vessel is owned and managed by BOUMAR SHIPPING CO., Greece.
