China’s Cosco Dalian Shipyard has delivered the third module carrier (MC) vessel, the BigRoll Baffin, to Dutch heavy marine transportation provider BigRoll Shipping.
Cosco said on Wednesday that all documents between the parties regarding the delivery of the MC vessel were recently signed and that the module carrier was delivered to its ‘European buyer.’

This vessel is the third in a series of four Module Carriers built at the Dalian Shipyard in China for BigRoll Shipping. The company has already taken delivery of two vessels, the BigRoll Barentsz and the BigRoll Bering, while the final vessel, the BigRoll Beaufort, is expected to be delivered in early 2017.
Directly after delivery from the yard, the first two vessels entered into a multi-year contract with Yamgaz, the consortium of Technip, JGC Corporation, and Chiyoda, for module transportation as part of the Yamal LNG project.

The first BigRoll MC vessel, the BigRoll Barentsz, was handed over in April this year and completed its first voyage serving the Yamgaz consortium. During the vessel’s maiden voyage, it transported Yamal LNG modules directly from the fabrication yard in China to the Yamal project site in Sabetta, Russia.
The Finnish-Swedish 1A Ice Class MC Class is specifically designed for the marine transportation of major modules and equipment for large energy projects both onshore and offshore to remote areas.
All of the vessels are identical in design with 173 meters in length, 42 meters in breadth, accommodation for 60 people, a maximum speed of 15 knots, and can handle a load of 20 tonnes per square meter of deck space.
