Deltamarin has provided design services for Teekay Offshore’s Petrojarl Foinaven FPSO project, where two davit-type lifeboats located alongside the accommodation block of the vessel were replaced by four free-fall lifeboats.
The purpose of the project was to increase the number of personnel on board and to meet the new regulatory requirements. All upgrades and installation work were carried out in the Foinaven offshore field, West of Shetland, which is known as one of the most challenging sea areas in the world.

Deltamarin successfully executed design, analysis, approval and detail engineering for the modifications on board to guarantee the on-track installation of the new free-fall life boats. The installation window in the Foinaven field is very limited due to extremely rough sea conditions.
“Due to the challenging environment and very limited weather window, everything had to be well prepared with high accuracy. This unique project is a great example of the close collaboration of all involved parties, starting from project planning and design to installation work. We are very proud of supporting Teekay and being part of such a demanding brownfield project,” says Jaakko Lappi, Sales Manager at Deltamarin.
During the offshore installation work, Deltamarin was committed to prompt engineering support tasks in order to meet the tight installation schedule. The last phase of the installation work was successfully completed in the summer of 2016.
“Throughout what was a challenging project, both in terms of engineering and installation, Deltamarin produced an excellent design and was always available to support both the extended engineering team and construction team at all times,” says Craig Pattison, Project Manager at Teekay Offshore.
