Stolt Tankers, a leading chemical tanker company, has entered into a two-year partnership with Graphite Innovations & Technology (GIT) to apply GIT's XGIT-PROP graphene-based marine coating to the propellers of 25 Stolt Tankers ships in 2023.

Stolt Tankers becomes the first chemical tanker company to apply Graphite Innovations & Technology’s graphene-based propeller coatings to its fleet

This eco-friendly product XGIT-PROP effectively reduces marine growth and enhances propulsion efficiency, while being completely non-toxic and free of biocides, ensuring that no harmful toxins are released into the ocean. This collaboration aligns with Stolt Tankers' decarbonisation goals and reinforces the company's dedication to sustainability.

Stolt Tankers is thrilled to be the first chemical tanker company to adopt GIT's XGIT-PROP for its fleet and to leverage the promising capabilities of graphene coatings in the maritime industry.

In April 2022, the company conducted a trial of the GIT graphene propeller coating on the Stolt Acer, and the results were quite impressive, with a significant reduction in fuel consumption. Consequently, Stolt Tankers applied the coating to five additional ships.

By using the coating, the company aims to reduce the impact of biofouling and noise emissions on marine wildlife, which will improve fuel efficiency and, simultaneously, have a positive impact on marine life below water.

GIT's XGIT-PROP is a graphene-based propeller coating that is designed to release the growth of fouling on ship propellers and reduce the frequency of propeller cleanings. The coating also maintains the propulsive efficiency of the propeller and reduces damage due to cavitation, thereby lowering noise emissions. After just two to three coats, the coating remains effective for a long time, significantly reducing the need for frequent maintenance.
